Outdoor Patio Ideas

Anyone else using this free time to focus on home decorating? Drew and I have been neglecting our backyard for years now, so this year we are focusing on improving our patio and yard. Luckily for me, there are so many amazing home decor ideas out there this spring. Yard work seems like something we put off every year and never make the time for, and now we have no excuse but to get our butts to work. I say “we,” but Drew has been doing all the hard work and I’ve mostly been picking out patio furniture, but let’s just say I know my strengths.

Let’s start with the furniture that inspired our entire outdoor vibe this year. When I was walking through Target pre-quarantine, I literally gasped out loud when I walked up upon the outdoor section to this collection. It also comes in a four person version, but I wanted the six person table and chairs so we could fit more friends, for when we are able to be around more friends. It screams Palm Beach chic to me–which is my aesthetic goal for all things home decor. I’ve fallen in love with sets like this in the past from One Kings Lane and other fab stores but they are always way out of my price range.

Our patio set pictured without umbrella or pillows

This set comes with the coral cushions, which seem to be really amazing quality. I spray all of my cushions with ScotchGard for extra protection from the elements. So far, I’ve been making the effort to put the cushions inside before it rains, but it shouldn’t hurt them if it does rain on them. My next purchase will be a white deck box to store them in.

*Tip for shopping Target: Download the Target Circle app to get exclusive deals and save money. I got this patio set for $100 off through the app!

I went back and forth a million times when deciding on what colors to use for the umbrella and decor to go with the cushions. I love to use blues when decorating, and obviously if you’ve seen any of my other home decor you know I love pink. I promised Drew I would try to keep the pink to a minimum outside! I found a great coral rug and a great french blue/navy rug that I loved, but never fell in love with any pillows. That is, until I remembered the Ballard Designs outdoor palm leaf pillows of my dreams. I’ve had my eye on these babies for a couple of years, but never had a great place for them, until now.

My pillows

The decision to go with green meant that I needed to go with a neutral rug. I found this one from Target that isn’t super exciting but blends in well with the furniture to achieve the look I’m going for.

Love these coral pillows. I found these after I already ordered the Ballard ones, and if I didn’t already have so so much coral I would’ve for sure gone with these! They would be great paired with a navy umbrella. These wicker flamingos have to come home with me at some point. Waiting for them to go on sale more and then they will be our newest house guests!

Umbrellas

Let’s talk umbrellas. I am deeply in love with the classic tropical glam style of umbrella. Think fringe, stripes, scallops, the whole nine yards. Ballard Designs, Frontgate, and One Kings Lane have what we’ll call the Beyonce of all umbrella styles, but unfortunately I’m not in the market to buy an umbrella that costs more than my patio furniture combined. I did, however, find some reasonably priced similar ones that still make my heart flutter. I took a chance on matching the Opalhouse coral cushions that came with the furniture to this Pier 1 umbrella, and IT WORKED. I still cannot believe how perfectly they match!

We’ve had the umbrella less than a week but so far it seems like amazing quality. I originally wanted navy when I thought I was coordinating with blues, but be sure you read the reviews on them before you purchase. The one I’ve linked I love so much, but so many reviews said it faded after just a few weeks to a pale purple color. I realize that any outdoor umbrella will fade over time, but hopefully if this one does it will just fade to a lighter melon color. The coral one from Pier 1 we purchased also comes in navy, but it looked much more cobalt blue online so it made me nervous.

Accessories

I’ve purchased a few little things for outdoor decor, but I have big dreams and ideas in my head and on my Pinterest page. Opalhouse has a matching table runner with white fringe that I’m going to cut to fit around the umbrella, and so far I’ve gotten some faux flowers and citronella candles. I’m so excited! I’m attempting to be a crazy plant lady, but stay tuned on if I can keep anything alive. I once killed a cactus.

XX,
JULIA
