How to Be a Barbie Girl in a Grown Up World

With all the Barbie inspired merchandise on the market these days, my six year old self is jumping for joy. I’ve always been a Barbie lover–the girlier the better–and I can’t watch this Barbie trend pass me by and not be a part of it! This brand embodies so much, and I’m here to explain to you why this particular doll has always been such a positive thing for me. Read on to find out how to be a Barbie girl in a grown up world!

To me, Barbie has never had a negative connotation. I always looked at Barbies as an inspiration to grow up and be whatever I wanted to be, even if that’s a million different things. People get so hung up on the idea that Barbie encourages young girls to have unrealistic expectations of their bodies, but really, it allows them to dream about being more. Barbies come in all shapes and sizes now, and if there’s anything we can learn from the girl who can do it all, it’s that success begins with believing in yourself. When I was little, my grandmother gave me a hardcover Barbie book that I keep out on my coffee table now, filled with tons of outfits and styles from decades before I was born. It’s so special to me, and reminds me of her each time I look at it.

Barbie has a history that’s exciting and interesting to read up on and learn about, and I have no shame in being 27 and loving her just as much now as I did when I was little. There’s so much negativity in the world these days, so why not celebrate each other and do what makes us happy? Every time I wear this Barbie shirt the little girl inside of me gets excited all over again.
